Ten takeaways from Kings' first six games of the 2022-23 season
Plenty of interesting trends developing early in the year
Kings head coach Mike Brown likes to break the season down into five game increments. It’s something that Dave Joerger did when he coached the team as well.
In the first five games, the Kings were just 1-4, but they were competitive. The Kings opened the second five game stretch with a win and it looks like the team is playing a more consistent style of basketball on both ends of the court.
Five games works for Brown, but for writing purposes, the larger the sample size, the better. While six games isn’t much, there are plenty of items that stand out. Here are ten early thoughts on the 2022-23 Kings season.

De’Aaron Fox down
Fox will miss his first game of the season on Wednesday after an MRI revealed a bone bruise in his right knee. There is no timetable yet for a return for the Kings’ leading scorer, but the injury isn’t considered serious and there was no structural damage to the knee. Mike Brown will need a concerted effort from his squad to make up for the 27.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists Fox was averaging before playing just nine minutes against the Hornets.
On a bright note, the Kings rallied in Fox’s absence in Charlotte, with multiple players stepping up. Fox might not miss more than a few games, but at 2-4, the Kings can’t afford to let off the throttle.
