Basketball 101.

Sacramento Kings training camp continued on Saturday with the players once again broken up into groups of five. Instead of shooting or free throw shooting, the focus of the day was situational basketball within 5-on-5 scrimmage action.

This is the next step for Mike Brown’s team. They’ve spent the last two weeks concentrating on installing basic offensive and defensive principles. Brown and his staff have focused on the details and in some instances, they are going back to the most simple of concepts.

“Coaches, fans, players just assume that we know everything because we made it to the NBA, but sometimes you have to go over the things you learned in highschool, the things you learned in middle school, because they’re the basic things,” Domantas Sabonis said. “You’d be surprised how many players don’t know it. It’s good to remind each other and to know what’s important.”

The Kings are starting over this offseason in a lot of ways. The core group has changed dramatically from the nine or ten players who opened the 2021-22 season, and of course the coaching was almost completely swapped out during the offseason.
