Sunday Musings: Kings defense falters again, does Mike Brown need more help?

Kings give up 136 points in loss to Lakers

Sacramento, we have a problem.

Hiding behind a 10 game sellout streak and the lighting of the beam, the Kings’ defense has gone from passable, to suspect, to flat out bad.

Following another disappointing loss on Saturday night, head coach Mike Brown was fuming. He couldn’t hide his disdain for his team’s defensive effort and unloaded on the group following the 136-134 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers.

“The bottom line is obviously, we have to figure out somehow, some way to stop people defensively,” Brown said following the loss. “We are not good at all. Have a team come in here and score 136 points on 61% shooting and 70 points in the paint, that’s not good. And I don’t know – I’m not sure if we collectively as a group understand how important it is to try to fight like heck, from the beginning of the game to the end of the game, defensively.”

The Lakers, who came into the game with the 18th rated offense in the NBA, pummeled the Kings down low. Brown quoted the shooting and points in the paint numbers, which were spot on.

Sacramento was slow to rotate. Their guards and forwards failed to keep their opponents out of the key and Thomas Bryant absolutely torched Domantas Sabonis with a variety of mid range jump shots on his way to a season-high 29 points.
