Monday Musings: Mike Brown boiling, De'Aaron Fox wins Player of the Week

Kings' head coach is not happy with team's defensive effort

The Sacramento Kings are turning into the feel good story of the early part of the 2022-23 NBA season. With the team’s 137-129 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday evening, Mike Brown’s group has now won six straight games for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

“Light the beam” chants once again rained down in the late fourth quarter. The vibe is good. The fans are excited. Brown is not.

How could the leader of the hottest team in the Western Conference be concerned? It’s simple. The analytics have the Kings’ sustainability teetering on the edge.

Whether the team is adjusting to the message on the court is in question, but they are listening to their coach and using some of his talking points when addressing the media.

“If we were on the road, we probably don’t win that game, especially the way that we were defensively,” De’Aaron Fox said. “They were shooting 60 percent from the field, 60 percent from three for the majority of the game.”
