Mike Brown has lofty goals, "we’re trying to win a championship, like everybody else"

Kings lack experience, but feel little pressure heading into Warriors series

Kings head coach Mike Brown has a way about him. His smile is infectious and his confidence level is off the charts.

As he prepares his team for their first playoff series, he spoke to the media on Wednesday and he continues to repeat a line that is noteworthy and maybe holds just a little more weight now than it did during training camp.

“Like I’ve said, we weren’t playing just to make the playoffs, we’re trying to win a championship, like everybody else,” Brown said.

It takes a certain amount of swagger to outwardly vocalize those words. There are very few people around NBA circles that had the Kings anywhere near the playoffs when the season began. The naysayers have been proven wrong.

The Las Vegas predictors had Sacramento winning 34.5 games. They were off by 13.5 victories. Almost every NBA talking head had the Kings as a play-in team at best, but most likely on the outside looking in. They too were wrong.

Many of the same people are lining up to write Brown’s squad off once again. The Warriors are heavily favored in the sports books as the sixth seed. The Kings are underdogs despite having home court advantage over the worst road team in the NBA playoffs.
