Malik Monk makes impression on Davion Mitchell, "I love playing with him"

Are Monk and Mitchell the Kings' bench backcourt pairing?

Day 1 of training camp was pretty basic. You miss a free throw, you run. Your teammate misses a free throw, you run. Alex Len hits a pair of free throws, coach Mike Brown and his staff take off sprinting.

Day 2 was different. When media was allowed in the building, Giants legend Barry Bonds was standing amongst the team ready to meet and greet a group of players, many of whom were still wearing diapers when he cranked 73 home runs in 2001.

The photo op is nice, but the real meat of Kings coverage is about the play on the court and how the 2022-23 team is rounding into shape on Sept. 28.

Kevin Huerter and Keegan Murray chatted with the media during Tuesday’s opening moments of camp, which was an interesting decision from the Kings. Huerter is likely to start at the shooting guard spot and Murray is trying to prove that he is ready to open the season alongside Domantas Sabonis in the post.

On Wednesday, the pairing of Davion Mitchell and Malik Monk joined the scrum to break down everything from Bonds’ appearance to how they fit as a potential pairing in the backcourt. There is a possibility that Monk or Mitchell pull off the upset and find their way into the starting five, but the more likely scenario is that they form something special off the bench behind Huerter and De’Aaron Fox.
