Welcome in to your morning cup of Kings. Apologies for fewer posts this week. To quote the great John Lennon, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.“
The Kings continue to stack up losses, but they have a misdemeanors’ row of teams this week, including matchups with the Pelicans, Bulls, Pacers and Hornets. The first three teams on that list have combined for 10 straight losses and have a combined record of 59-128.
At 14-49, the Kings continue to have the worst record in the NBA, but that will be tested for sure by this group of tank-a-thon contestants.
Podcast Palooza
With it being a few days since a newsletter, the podcasts have stacked up. On Wednesday, Sean Cunningham, Brenden Nunes and I got together for a new edition of The Kings Beat Podcast, which you can view here:
In addition to the TKB pod, we have plenty of Locked On podcasts to catch up on, including a look at how Nique Clifford will get an expanded opportunity for the remainder of the season.
On Tuesday, the discussion centered around Keegan Murray, who is out for at least another week. Should the Kings bring him back for the final 14-15 games and see if he can build some momentum heading into summer or should they shut him down and allow his left ankle to heal completely?
During Wednesday’s show, the focus shifted to game coverage as the Kings took a 30-22 lead into the second quarter and then allowed a 19-2 run to open the period. Doug Christie foreshadowed this exact issue of his team having momentary lapses during his pregame media session.
The Kings practiced on Wednesday and the conversation centered around young players earning their minutes and the expanded role of rookie Nique Clifford. Here is the latest podcast on those conversations, followed by the videos from the media sessions.
The week isn’t over yet. We’ll have game coverage from Thursday’s battle against the Pelicans tomorrow morning and again on Monday morning from the Kings’ Sunday matchup against the Bulls.
