When a team finishes third in their conference, that means that they had a very successful season and they will also be drafting in the last third of the NBA Draft. That’s how it usually works.

The Sacramento Kings are no different. For the first time in a decade and a half, the team wasn’t in the lottery. They own the 24th pick in the upcoming draft, as well as picks No. 38 and 54 in the second round.

General manager Monte McNair has struck gold in the top end of prior drafts, selecting Tyrese Haliburton, Davion Mitchell and Keegan Murray in consecutive drafts. Drafting in the 20s is a completely different beast.

Sacramento is looking for depth at the three and the four. They need length, athleticism, and defensive-minded players to fill out the depth of the roster. With the draft just eight days away, we’ll start with potential players who should be around when the Kings make their selections both in the late first and early second.

For this exercise, we used Brett Huff’s Consensus Big Board over at NBADraftNetwork.com.
