The NBA trade deadline is just 12 days away and it could get very interesting in Sacramento. One major piece of business was handled this week when both general manager Monte McNair and assistant GM Wes Wilcox were extended by the Kings ownership.

This move sets the stage for the Kings’ brass to attack the deadline like they have in the previous two seasons when they have made multiple moves to bolster the rotation.

We have already seen one trade go through when the Lakers acquired Rui Hachimura from the Washington Wizards for Kendrick Nunn and three second round picks. Will that open the flood gates to trade season?

McNair knows his team needs more adjustments, although the culture and chemistry of the current club has them sitting at the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference 47 games into the season. Can he bring in a piece or two to supplement the rotation without damaging the delicate balance of the squad?

The Kings have needs. McNair isn’t blind to the deficiencies of his roster. He has an open line of communication with head coach Mike Brown and there is likely a list of potential additions that could be made. The question will be how far does McNair push the envelope with his team being the story of the NBA this season.

It isn’t as easy as just laying basketball cards out on a table and trading one for another. McNair has to manage the complexities of the salary cap and he isn’t exactly playing with a loaded deck.

Here is a look at the Kings’ roster situation heading into trade season.
