No one said it would be easy.

The Sacramento Kings were riding high heading into the new calendar year after back-to-back wins to close out their homestand. And then Steven Adams and the Memphis Grizzlies happened.

With Domantas Sabonis playing with one hand tied behind his back, the 7-foot New Zealander punished the Kings on the glass, grabbing a season-high 23 rebounds, including a career-best 13 on the offensive end.

Sacramento kept it close, but every defensive possession seemed to end with Adams grabbing an offensive rebound for the Grizzlies and resetting the shot clock to 14. In addition to Adams' board work, Ja Morant torched the Kings for 35 points, as Memphis pulled away late for a 118-108 victory.

Six Kings scored in double figures, led by De'Aaron Fox's 19, but this was a forgettable game to open a short two game road trip.
