Kings continue hot streak, pick up fifth straight win

Kings' offense is rolling, leading to lopsided scores

The chants started in the mid-fourth quarter. “Light the beam, light the beam, light the beam.” This winning thing is new in Sacramento, but fans are embracing their fledgling Kings and are thirsty for so much more.

With a 130-112 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night, the Kings have now strung together five consecutive victories. By most standards, it’s a modest win streak. But for Sacramento, this feels like new territory.

“Before the season, all we’ve been hearing is about the drought…about the drought, the drought, the drought and the Kings this, this, this, this, this,” Malik Monk said. “We’re just happy to have some energy in here and the fans are pushing us, man, and they’re just energizing us. So we’re going to keep it up.”

We only have to go back two seasons to find a similar streak. During the 2020-21 season, the Kings knocked off the Cavs (in Cleveland), Hawks, Warriors, Cavs (in Sacramento) and Spurs in consecutive games. They followed up this streak with nine straight losses to once again remind their fanbase that Charlie Brown never gets to kick the football.

This season feels different. Or maybe everyone wants it to feel different.
