The music filled the practice facility, reverberating off the walls and drowning out the sound of basketballs bouncing off the hardwood floor. It was still playoff season and the Sacramento Kings were getting in some work following shootaround.

There is always music playing in the gym when the media is allowed in. This was nothing new, but the playlist was slightly different than normal. Maybe the team was looking for inspiration. Maybe they were looking for a certain vibe.

As the next song loaded up, you could see almost everyone in the building, including a collection of reporters waiting to interview players, start to bounce their heads a bit. Everyone knew the song and the meaning wasn’t lost on anyone.

The lyrics are from Eminem’s Lose Yourself. That is part of what the Kings players were trying to do, lose themselves in the moment and try to accomplish something that no one expected, beat the championship Golden State Warriors in a seven game first round series.
